Ode to Summer

Spirits of the Mountain
Spirits of the garden
What you were meant to be
Unspoken
Tunnel to the truth
Maker

O Spirits of my Neighbors
Pour into my backyard
receptacle
conjunction
I bathe in it
I stand joyful
In the midst of my dream

The bees ecstatic
Goldenrod
Honey-scented
songs come forth
Waves and waves of yellow joy

Balloon flowers
Medicinal roots
Blue-purple spheres
swell and pop
Opening into blue stars

"Worm Burning Bright in the Forests of the Night"

The worms
eyeless gnomes
Ceaselessly mining
waste
creating gems
Filling the plants roots
treasury

Zucchini
Succulent
Glossy green striped
Mother’s milk
Emerging from the back of
a giant flower!

Generous beans
Long dangling
Juicy-crisp
Emerald
My hands can’t keep up

Oregon Hummingbird at Dusk

The hummingbirds zip in and out
Glistening coppery green
Scarlet throated

I bathe in all this
standing
In my dream.
