Our writing contests have become so popular that our volunteer staff needs more help to tend our garden.  With your support, we can sustain our family-friendly floral writing site. We have recently begun asking for a subscription to enter a contest.  If you are a previous 1st place or prompt winner, this does not apply, and you are good to go. If you’re new to the site be sure and read our Mission page to see all the wonderful benefits you can enjoy.  Thanks for your continuing support!

Modest and sweet-
I look for you in quiet corners
Violet.

Violet

“Few flowers have symbolized the renewal of spring, and the triumphs and tribulations of love, as much as the violet. Blooming in the shade, these beautiful innocent bystanders of nature’s woodland paths hold a history of their own for their uses in medicine and popular culture.”

This quote is from a very interesting article about the violet – myths, legends, medicinal uses, historical references and much more.  Click on the Legend of Violet to read more about this beloved spring flower.

Our prompt creator is Anusha Pillay from India.  You may remember her lovely story Hiraeth – Garden of Dreams  from  last year’s “Garden Magic” contest.  Thank you, Anusha!

We invite you to enter an original story – or two, or three – inspired by the picture and by Anusha’s prompt.  Let your imagination run wild.  What stories do you imagine from the shy and unassuming violet?  Is there more to her than meets the eye?  You may click on the picture to enlarge it.

Two Ways to Win!

Some of you love public voting, and others enjoy getting feedback from a highly qualified judge. We now have something for everyone!

We’re delighted to introduce our new judge, Sherry Torgent, who will select the Grand Prize Winner and list of Finalists for this contest.  Sherry is a publishing editor, writer, and published author.  Welcome to ZenGarden.club, Sherry!  We look forward to reading your comments about the selected Violet stories.

  • Public Voting will determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners
  • ZenGarden.club Judge will select the Grand Prize Winner and list of Finalists.

Remember that all stories selected for the shortlist will also be eligible to be included in our upcoming ZenGarden.club Kindle books.

Good luck to everyone!
